Effect of partial ligation of the abdominal vena cava on the glomerular filtration rate (inulin clearance) was observed in 39 rabbits. Vena cava was ligated to one-half of the original lumen under nembutal anesthesia at the level just upper the right renal vein. Sixteen rabbits served as the control animal, 12 rabbits were observed 7 to 10 days after the partial ligation, 11 rabbits were observed 90 minutes after the partial ligation. Inulin clearance in the normal control rabbits was on average 2.171. 25 ml/min (MeanS. D. ) or 14.018.04 ml/min/mz. Inulin clearance decreased to 1.360.78 ml/min or 8.514. 14 ml/min/mZ in rabbits 7 to 10 days after the partial ligation. In 11 rabbits inulin clearance observed 90 minutes after ligation decreased markedly to 1.090. 50 ml/min or 7.003.31 ml/min/mz
Thus it was concluded that the partial ligation of abdominal vena cava at the level just upper the renal vein decreased the glomerular filtration rate.
